An energy conservation program implemented in 2003 has earned a prestigious Award of Excellence for the Hartselle School System.
An engraved plaque was presented by Ken Murdock with Energy Education Inc. to Hank Quattlebaum, maintenance director for the city’s schools, at a regular meeting of the Hartselle School Board on Sept. 11. It commends the school system for accumulating $487,442 in energy savings over the past three years and three months.
Quattlebaum directs the program and was the one to receive the award; however, he down played his role and gave the credit to others.
In another matter, the board authorized Reed to come up with specifications and bids for repairing and making improvements to six tennis courts at Hartselle Junior High. Four of the courts face east to west and the board asked for bids to give it the option of reconfiguring them so they will face north to south. The project has a number three priority on the school system’s five-year capital plan; has a $30,000 budget; and a 2007 construction date.
Reed was also authorized to execute a contract with an independent firm to conduct a study of the school’s systems coaching supplements, with the cost not to exceed $5,500.
Out-of-state field trips were approved for the Hartselle High Chorus ensemble and performers and Future Business Leaders of America.
The library at Hartselle High was authorized to dispose of surplus textbooks.
The board acted on personnel items as follows:
