Oct. 5, 1956 — Sim L. Howell, long-time chairman of the Morgan County Board of Revenue, plans to quit this position and has written a resignation letter to Governor Folsom. Oct. 8, 1956 — The last four Morgan County schools still out—Eva, Ryan, Union Hill, and Gum Pond—reopened this morning after being closed for students to pick cotton. These schools are on the mountain and cotton there does not open as early as it does in the valley.

Oct. 9, 1956 — The newly installed Hartselle city council tonight reappointed all employees and selected Curtis Chaney to be the police chief. W. L. Kyker resigned recently to take a job in Huntsville.
Oct. 10, 1956 — In calls back home local UA students are reporting that demands to replace the embattled head football coach, J. B. (Ears) Whitworth, are increasing on campus. Unflattering effigies of the coach were recently hung on the quad and by a frat house.
Johnny Lujack, formerly a Fighting Iris QB, is strongly preferred by many Crimson Tide fans to succeed “Ears.”
Oct. 11, 1956 — Skipper Drinkard is attracting a lot of attention at MCHS these days with his new wine-colored sweater.
