Oct. 19, 1956 —Fuel injection and a new triple-turbine transmission make their debut on the 1957 Chevrolets unveiled today. Bill Stewart of Stewart Bros.Motor Co. will have at least six models on display. In a couple of days Mr. Stewart will be traveling to Biloxi, Miss., to attend the annual convention of the Alabama Automobile Dealers Association.
Oct. 20, 1956 —Two of the most effective performers for the MCHS Tigers in this season are the co-captains of the team, Frankie Dean, guard, and Karl Estes, fullback. Dean, who backs up the line in a capable manner on defense, is a potent downfield blocker on offense. Estes scored both Tiger tallies in the first game with Tanner. (Mr. Estes passed away recently.)
Oct. 21, 1956 —Three teenage boys, ages 15, 16, and 18, broke into the Hartselle Elementary School a couple of nights ago and stole about $36 in silver. They were arrested this morning by Police Chief Chaney and Policeman Looney.
Oct. 22, 1956 —With the recent hiring of Woodrow Anderson, Hartselle now has a police force of six men. The fire department consists of four men, the two newest additions being W. N. Grizzard and J. E. Blevins.
Oct. 23, 1956 —Mrs. David Chandler, who with Dr. Chandler has recently moved to Hartselle from El Paso, Texas, was complimented this afternoon when Mrs. Albert Brewer entertained with a dessert bridge in her honor at the Brewer residence in Decatur. Among Mrs. Chandler’s friends from Hartselle in attendance was Mrs. Guy Roberts.
Oct. 24, 1956 —President Eisenhower was the victor by 61 votes in a mock election by U of A students today. The incumbent chief executive beat out his challenger, former Governor Adlai Stevenson, by a vote of 1004-943. It is not known how Hartselle area students voted in the referendum.
Oct. 25, 1956 —Hartselle’s radio station WHRT began regular broadcasts today. It will be on the air from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. Owner Gene Newman says that the station will operate with what is known as a “music and news” format.
Oct. 25, 1956 —Today and the two days following have been designated for the grand opening of the new, highly modern and beautiful Piggly Wiggly store. Paul Lee is the owner of this business.
