County moves on site for environmental services

A move is in the future for Morgan County Environmental Services, a waste collection arm of county government.
The commission took a first step in that direction at its Oct.10 meeting by authorizing Chairman John Glasscock to negotiate a contract for the purchase of property on which to build a shop and office building. The actual purchase of such a building site will have to have the majority approval of the governing body, however.
Environmental Services is currently operating out of District 2 facilities in Hartselle.
District 4 Commissioner Stacy George asked if a public hearing would be conducted prior to the construction of a building
After the meeting, Glasscock said the department has outgrown its existing facilities and needs more space. “A central location that is out of the way of densely populated and high traffic areas would be ideal,” he said.
Two resolutions pertaining to the Jan.16, 2007 special election for the Morgan County Consolidated School District were also approved.
The chairman was authorized to request and accept the assistance of the Probate Judge, Sheriff, Circuit Clerk. Board of Registrars and their staffs to carry out the commission’s duties in collection with the election Also, a commission resolution dated Sept. 26 was amended to revise the form of ballot for the election so that it may be processed with the county’s automatic tabulating equipment.
