City considers limit on storage containers

Hartselle’s City Council has set a hearing date for a proposal to limit portable storage units in the city.
The proposed ordinance would limit the time portable shipping containers used for storage could be left at a site.
The public hearing is set for Nov. 28. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
The proposal was prompted by complaints about large containers left at homes. The containers include tractor trailers or other large shipping containers that are used as storage.
The ordinance would set a 30-day limit on the containers, with exceptions for construction sites with an active building permit. It would apply to shipping crates, cargo bins and transportation trailers for any other use besides shipping.
