Woman charged with eluding

An alleged attempt to help an alleged probation violator elude capture has landed a local woman in hot water.
Brandy Nicole Paul is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana in the second degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, hindering prosecution in the second degree, attempting to elude and running a stop sign in connection with the Oct. 24 incident in Union Hill.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s, a deputy was on patrol on Buster Owens Road when he noticed a Mazda 626. The deputy recognized Billy Matthew Smith and knew he was wanted for outstanding warrants on escape in the third degree and a probation violation from Marshall County. The deputy pursued the car. The driver sped off, allegedly running a stop sign. A short distance later, the driver slowed and let the passenger from the car and then sped off. The deputy followed the driver and later arrested her when the car came to a stop at a dead end street. During a search of the car, deputies discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
She was taken to the Morgan County Jail on $2,900 bond. Smith was not found and remains at large. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 301-1174.
