County joins in Riley rush

Morgan County joined in Gov. Bob Riley’s parade Tuesday, sending the Republican back for a second term in office.
In Morgan County, Riley received 63 percent of the vote, or 21,150 ballots, to Democratic challenger Lucy Baxley’s 35 percent, or 11,714 votes.
Statewide, Riley received some 57 percent of the vote in a race that most figured to be an even-greater landslide for the popular governor.
For his second term in office, Riley is touting his “Plan 2010,” a wide-ranging initiative that includes tax cuts, health insurance reforms and economic development.
In the weeks leading up to the election, Riley has crisscrossed the state to campaign. His campaign led him to Hartselle last week.
Morgan County voters also cast the majority of their ballots for the
Republican candidate for Lt. Gov. Luther Strange, but statewide voters didn’t agree.
Strange received 17,469 votes, or 52 percent of the Morgan County vote, compared to challenger Jim Folsom Jr.’s 15,748 or 47 percent. Statewide, however, Folsom, a former governor and Lt. Gov. Received 52 percent of the vote.
