Democrats held on to to the District Nine seat when Tuesday’s voters sent Ronald Grantland back to Montgomery.
Grantland received some 6,348 votes, or 56 percent, to opponent Scott Stone’s 43 percent, or 4,894 votes.
Grantland, who is retired from the Alabama Department of Public Health, is pledging to continue to work to support the Education Trust Fund and wants to establish a legislative Permanent Joint Health Care Committee to study healthcare issues.
Grantland’s win was part of the mixed-bag mood of Morgan County voters Tuesday, with voters opting for both Republicans and Democrats. That split was mirrored statewide, with voters opting for a Republican governor and Secretary of State and a Democratic Lt. Gov. and Supreme Court Chief Justice
Other Morgan County results for statewide offices include:

* Republican Beth Chapman handily defeated Democrat Nancy Worley in Morgan
County, the incumbent Secretary of State’s home county. Chapman, currently the State Auditor, received 63 percent of the vote to Worley’s 37 percent.
Statewide, Chapman received 55 percent of the vote to Worley’s 45 percent.
* Morgan County voters did support hometown candidate Susan Parker in her bid for the Place Two seat on the Public Service Commission. Parker, a Democrat, received 56 percent of the county vote to challenger Perry Hooper Jr.’s 44 percent. Statewide, Parker received 55 percent of the vote.
