Mrs. Francis died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, at her residence. She completed practical nurse’s training at Baugh-Wiley Clinic in Decatur and worked as a nurse at the hospital and in home nursing care for many years. Her husband of 53 years, E. Gordon “Doc” Francis, preceded her in death.
During their marriage, she worked as a helpmate and partner to Doc through his career. When he enlisted in the Army, she went with him to California and lived there until he sailed to the Pacific theater during World War II. Upon his return from the war, she worked beside him at the Kaiser-Willis Jeep dealership in Hartselle and in the Standard Oil distributorship until their retirement.
In her later years, she loved travel, her church, First Presbyterian of Hartselle, where she was elected and ordained an elder in 1997 in her 85th year of life, and the company of her family and many friends.
She is survived by her sister, Willie Pearl Owen McCutcheon; nine nephews and nieces, James Owen of Hartselle, Charles Owen of Priceville, Kent Owen of Hartselle, Dale McCutcheon and Boyce McCutcheon, both of Cotaco, Kay Bonar of Jacksonville, Fla., Paige McRight of Orlando, Jean Turney of Cotaco, and Margaret Wright of Memphis; and their children and grandchildren.
