Most say they favor tax

Incredibly positive, wonderful, overwhelming, a good start…these were among words used by Hartselle school leaders and city officials on Tuesday night to describe their feelings following a public hearing on a proposed new high school and the passage of a 12.5 mill property tax to fund its construction.
Of the 25 people from the audience of about 200 who either made comments or asked questions, 23 said they saw a need for a new high school and would support an additional tax to build it.
City Council President K. T. (Kenny) Thompson said the response surprised him.
Jennifer Sittason, a school board member and chairperson of a committee formed to promote passage of the proposed property tax, said she was overwhelmed by the positive comments of those who spoke.
