Hartselle native wins state award

Decatur optometrist Chris Teichmiller, O.D. has been named Optometrist of the Year by the Alabama Optometric Association (ALOA). The award was presented during the Association’s Annual Convention held this October in Birmingham.
Teichmiller is a native of Hartselle and is a 1980 graduate of Morgan County High School, now Hartselle High School. He is the son of Jerry and Betty Teichmiller, of Hartselle.
Dr. Teichmiller is a 1990 graduate of the University of Alabama at
Birmingham School of Optometry. He established his current private full scope, primary optometric practice in Decatur 16 years ago. He lives in Decatur with his wife Dr. Stephanie Teichmiller, whose dental practice is also in Decatur, and they have two children, Ann Sutton,12 and Nichols, 10.
As an active ALOA member, Dr. Teichmiller served on the association’s Board of Directors from 1998-2003 and was ALOA president in
2003. He has served on the ALOA Eye Care Benefits Committee and Government Relations Committee and on several American Optometric Association committees.
Dr. Teichmiller is also active in his community. As Alabama’s Clinical Director he has helped organized Vision Screenings for the Alabama Special Olympics State Games since 2002. Dr Teichmiller is currently Chair of the Huntsville Vision America Advisory Board. He is currently participating, for the second year, in the nationally recognized Mission: Makeover project featured on WAAY-31.
He is also an active member of the Central United Methodist Church, Decatur Rotary Club and the Decatur/Morgan County Chamber of Commerce.
