City shows its caring side

I would like to thank the residents of Hartselle for generously participating in our Seventh annual Caring Day. The city of Hartselle collected 3,603 canned goods! This is 1,214 cans more than last year! And our tally is not final yet because Bethel Baptist School has one bin that they will be filling until Nov. 21. One hundred-twentyfour turkeys and 42 canned hams were donated by our merchants and purchased with money donated by civic clubs and churches. I want to say thank you to Fred Limberg the manager of Kroger and to Bobby Hallmark the meat manager for working with us to purchase the turkeys and hams. All of your community efforts will make sure that needy families in the Hartselle area will have a meal for Thanksgiving. All of this would not have been possible without your help. Thank you!
I would also like to thank the people that volunteered this year to make this event a success. A very special thank you goes out to Mayor Dwight Tankersley, Kenny Thompson, and Bill Smelser. I would also like to thank Byron Turney, Garland Gilliam, and Ronnie Farrow with the Public Works Department. Derrick Woodall and Jeremy Griffith from the Department of Development and Shawn Woods from Administration are also owed a thank you. A big thank you goes out to Joe Wheeler Electric Co-op and Sonoco Products for participating this year! I would also like to thank Crestline School, Barkley Bridge, Burleson, and the Junior High School for taking part in our event again this year. Michael Swistek with Allied Waste Services, Carolyn Wallace with Hartselle Beautification Association, Virginia Alexander with The Caring Place, Melee Laney and Staci McCormick from the city of Hartselle, and Betty Parker helped to organize this event. Thank you all for your help!

Students, fans did Hartselle proud

I just wanted to congratulate our football team and coaches on their win at Gardendale this past week. I can’t ever remember watching a more exciting fourth quarter. I also wanted to commend our cheerleaders, our band, our student body and parents for their display of team spirit. I must say though that the highlight of the night for me wasn’t as much coming back and winning the game – as great as that was – but rather that the game began with prayer as well as ended with prayer.
I cannot describe what I felt as I saw the teams gather in the middle of that field and drop to their knees to honor the
Lord. I cannot describe what I felt as I witnessed the folks in our stands become absolutely still and quiet out of their respect for what was taking place out on the field at that moment. I regret that I did not have had my camera with me, because I would love to have a picture of that. I think you guys touched the heart of God in a very special way by honoring Him in the way that you did.
I know that you certainly touched mine.

Night of Bands a big success

The Morgan County Night of Bands was a huge success with more than 2,000 in attendance. The opportunity for our area high school marching bands to fine tune their performances through an exhibition event such as this would not be possible without our sponsors. We at A.P. Brewer High School Band Boosters would like to say thank you. Thank you for recognizing what a positive impact the band program has on our students and communities.
