Taking extra precautions and using common sense can go a long way in keeping your home safe from fire during the busy Christmas holiday season and the cold weather months that follow, advises Hartselle Fire Chief Steve Shelton.
Shelton recommended people follow the manufacturer’s recommendations when using electric or kerosene space heaters.
Shelton said two other common items - extension cords and candles - could also cause problems.
Shelton also offered the following home decoration safety tips.
Shelton also warned against being complacent about smoke detectors in the home.
If a blaze does occur, Shelton said each home should have two residential-type fire extinguishers.
