Hartselle splits against Cullman in area-opening games Friday

Hartselle girls 45, Cullman girls 28
Lauren Drake had a double-double for Hartselle, finishing with 17 points and 17 rebounds as the Lady Tigers improved to 7-2 and remained undefeated against teams from Alabama.
Mary Virginia Reeves added 11 for the Lady Tigers, who also got nine points from Jessica Andrews.
Cullman’s Andrea Mason had eight points to lead the Lady Bearcats.
Cullman boys 60, Hartselle boys 39
Cullman scored 41 points in the second half to pull away late after Hartselle (5-5) trailed by six at halftime.
Jackson Holmes and Ryne Lindsey each scored 11 points to lead the Tigers. Cullman’s Ben Waid led all scorers with 17 points.
Brewer girls 81, Decatur girls 46
Courtney Scott had 22 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Lady Patriots to a victory at home against Decatur Friday night. Andrea Crawford and Meagan Childers added 13 points each for Brewer (4-2) and Heather Childers had 10. Genie Browning finished with 10 assists in a game that Brewer led by 22 at the halftime break.
Shannon Laughlin had 11 to lead Decatur.
Decatur boys 70, Brewer boys 56
Decatur’s Jerodiaus Willingham had 19 points and three other Red Raiders scored in double figures as the Patriots fell at home Friday.
Brewer (3-4) outscored Decatur 38-33 in the second half but couldn’t come back from a 19-point intermission deficit.
Danville girls 68, Vinemont girls 15
The Lady Hawks opened their area schedule with a dominating performance Friday night at home against Vinemont. Danville seniors Bethany Evans and Lauren Simmons each had 14 to lead the Lady Hawks. Simmons also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Evans shot 4-of-5 from the three-point line and as a team Danville was 10-of-15 from three-point range.
Magen Linderman added 13 points and Alaina Fitzgerald had 10 for Danville. Linderman, Fitzgerald and Laney Jolley each had eight rebounds in the win.
Vinemont boys 62, Danville boys 33
Dakota McClung had 10 points as the Hawks dropped to 0-4 this season. Roger Smith came close to a double-double performance, pulling down 10 rebounds and scoring nine points.
East Lawrence girls 71, Priceville girls 69 (OT)
The Lady Bulldogs dropped their area opener Friday night in a hard-fought loss to East Lawrence at home. The teams were tied at 62-all after regulation.
Priceville (4-3) was led by Marissa Chambers’ 25 points. Callie Cox added 17 and Abbie Harris had 13 for the Lady Bulldogs. Allison White pulled down seven rebounds and Harris dished out six assists.
East Lawrence’s Paige Hood had a monster performance, finishing with 30 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and five steals.
Priceville boys 74, East Lawrence boys 58
The Bulldogs picked up a win in their area opener Friday night. Josh Bedwell had 32 points to pace Priceville (6-1). Andrew Johnson added 14 points and five rebounds for the Bulldogs and Will Stevens had five assists.
Dakota Matthews’ 20 points led East Lawrence in a losing effort.
