The Bradford pear trees in the Highway 31 median in Hartselle are definitely on the State Highway Department’s “violator list” and likely will be removed early next year, according to a report Hartselle Mayor Dwight Tankersley received from District No. 1 Engineer Johnny Harris last week.
Carolyn Wallace, Hartselle Beautification Association director, said she has been asked by some individuals who made memorial donations to have the trees planted in the median if they can be dug up and replanted somewhere else.
A tree that obstructs the view of motorists or one that is four inches or larger in diameter or one which has the potential to reach that size is in violation of state and federal highway safety guidelines, Harris stated in an earlier report.
