Dec. 28, 1956—Hartselle’s Tigers with Bowes Channell back in the line-up at center ousted Town Creek from their own invitational basketball tournament tonight. In a 60-52 semi-final contest, Channell was the leading scorer with 16 points.
Dec. 28, 1956—Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Stone, Jr., and son, Scotty, are visiting relatives in Louisiana and Texas this week.
Dec. 29, 1956—Members of the MCHS Class of ’51 held their second reunion since graduation tonight at Smith’s Restaurant. During the evening the class roll was called and each member answered with what he or she had been doing during the past five years. Pictures were made of the group and may be obtained from the class secretary, Mrs. Paul Prince.
Dec. 30, 1956—Rev. D. C. Stringfellow resigned as pastor of Hartselle’s First Baptist Church today. He will occupy the pulpit for the last time on January 15 and then enter Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, to study for his doctorate.
Dec. 31, 1956—Aviation Cadet Ralph Pattillo, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. V. Pattillo, has been promoted to cadet group commander at Graham AFB, Fla., where he is training to be a jet pilot.
Jan. 1, 1957—Local Auburn football fans are already anticipating a great season this coming fall. Bill Beckwith, the SID and media relations chief, is putting out glowing publicity related to upcoming spring training and the campaign to follow in autumn.
Jan. 2, 1957—Morgan County High School and Hartselle Elementary School resumed classes today. Smiles on the faces of the returning young scholars were few and far between.
Jan. 2, 1957—A. A. Oden today announced a January surplus food distribution program restricted to enrollees in Decatur, Hartselle, Falkville, and Trinity. These are the only communities that have funded or indicated the willingness to fund their pro rata share of distribution costs. Due to the restricted winter program 5,000 out of an estimated 12,000 needy people in Morgan County will not be sure of where their next meal is coming from during these winter months.
Jan. 3, 1957—Mrs. M. A. Hartselle, Sr., and daughter, Martha, have returned from Savannah, Augusta, and Atlanta, Ga., where they visited their daughters and sisters. In Augusta they were at Bush Airport when President Eisenhower boarded his plane for Washington, after a spending a holiday vacation in the Georgia city.
