Funeral for Melvin Wayne Whitaker, 75, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Dec. 26, at 11 a.m. at West Hartselle Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Redfern officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mr. Whitaker died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at Hartselle Medical Center. He was born March 3, 1931, in Cullman County to Melvin Luther Whitaker and Willie Etta Copeland Whitaker. He was retired from the former Monsanto Company where he worked as a chemist. He graduated from St. Bernard College with an associate of science degree in 1956, served in the U.S. Army in Germany in 1954 and was a member of West Hartselle Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Whitaker of Hartselle; two sons, Joel Whitaker and wife Judy of Hixon, Tenn. and Dale Whitaker and wife Cyndi of Hartselle; a brother, Bob Whitaker and wife Jean of Hanceville; a sister, Paula Gorham and husband Harold of Decatur; four grandchildren, Brandi Jackson, Brent Whitaker, Jada Whitaker and Lucas Whitaker; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Jackson and Caleb Jackson; and a nephew, Steve Hall and wife Michelle and their children, Andrew, Sarah and Emma.
Members of the Men’s Sunday School Class at West Hartselle Baptist Church were pallbearers.
