Funeral for Sarah Kathryn Edwards, 86, of Hartselle was Saturday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Campbell, the Rev. Wendell Callahan and Dr. Ken Taylor Jr. officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Miss Kathryn died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Jan. 11, 1920, to John Henry and Madgie Roberts Edwards. She graduated from Florence State College and was employed by the Morgan County school system as a teacher for 40 years. She taught at the old Rockyford School, Neel and Danville Elementary. Her life was full of love and dedication to her Lord and her family. She was a longtime member of Shady Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for nearly 65 years. She loved teaching children music and enjoyed playing the piano and church organ for many years. She served as Vacation Bible School director for the Morgan County Association for years and spent many summers leading Bible schools across North Alabama.
Miss Kathryn had a great passion for missions and loved to give generously to many causes around the world. She was a strong believer in prayer and was a constant witness to all around her. She handed out Bible tracts and spoke about God to hospital nurses days before her death. She never had children of her own, but influenced countless lives because of her remarkable example.
She loved her family and was a dedicated caregiver for many years to all who needed her. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Andrew Edwards and Willie Fred Edwards; and sisters, Evelyn Edwards, Hazel Edwards and Amner Faye Edwards.
She is survived by a nephew, Ray Edwards and wife Fay; two great-nieces, Mary Terry and husband Steve and Martha Bowling and husband Mike; and six great-great-nieces and nephews, Andrew Terry, Rachel Terry, Matthew Terry, Reagan Bowling, Evan Bowling and Jacob Bowling.
Pallbearers were Mike Bowling, Steve Terry, Andrew Terry, Matthew Terry, Clyde Gillott and Delyn Roan.
Honorary pallbearers were church deacons.
