Funeral for Mary Frances Mays, 84, of Decatur was Friday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Audie Hodges and Mike Stonbreaker officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mrs. Mays died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006, at Decatur General Hospital. She was born Dec. 2, 1922, in Morgan County to Benjamin Franklin Bean and Mary Wyona Slone Bean. She was a fighter and fought a tough battle and now is healed of her afflictions and His will has been done, To God be the glory. She lived by this statement, “Who you are is God’s gift to you; what you become is your gift to God.” She was a gift to all of us and has shown us how we can be a gift to God. She was a loving, kind, generous person who served others all through these many years. Her example of how to treat your fellow man and one’s family should not be soon forgotten. She was a faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Mays.
She is survived by three sisters, Evelyn B. Young of Decatur, Bonnie Hogan of Hartselle and Rebecca Lawrence of Franklin, Tenn. and many nieces, nephews and three adopted grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly.
Pallbearers were Mike Hogan, Jeff Hogan, Glenn Lang, Ronnie NeSmith, Larry NeSmith, Steve Young, Hank Young, David Bean, Barry Bean and Jim Lawrence.
