Firetruck, sewer part of CIP

It’s the month after Christmas, but Hartselle’s city leaders are playing the part of Santa Claus in their new capital improvement plan.
The city will take some $1.6 million from its reserves to pay for a list of items ranging from a new fire truck to sewer projects at its property on Interstate 65.
The plan brings the city’s reserve down to $3.87 million, enough for about five months of operation.
The council had considered a laundry list of capital improvement items but honed that number down to a list of main projects.
The projects the council approved include:
Department of Development
Police Department
Fire Department
Public Works
Parks and Recreation Department
Some of the projects will stretch into the next fiscal year and all the money won’t be paid in 2007.
Some of the items that weren’t approved were Main Street traffic light upgrades, paving of the downtown parking lot, updated dispatching radio console for the police department, a track hoe, dump truck and furniture for the civic center.
