Tiger wrestlers hit the road for recent tournaments

Hartselle finishes 9th of 22 teams at Tennessee meet
The Tigers participated in the Ravenwood High School Raptor Invitational in Brentwood, Tenn., this past weekend. Hartselle finished ninth among 22 teams in the overall standings and Caleb Blanton was the individual champion at 145 pounds.
Blanton, who finished second in Class 5A's 140-pound division last year, improved to 22-0 this season and is currently ranked first in the state in his weight class in Class 5A (www.alabamawrestling.net rankings). He won all four of his matches at the Raptor Invitational.
At 160, Dallas Kalber finished in third place with a record of 4-1.
Also scoring points for Hartselle were Kyle Davis at 125 with a record of 3-2, Zach Hill at 140 with a record of 1-2, Barrett Eubanks at 152 with a record of 3-2, Jake Watkins at 171 with a record of 2-2, Ethan Hamilton at 189 with a record of 2-2 and Daniel Filiatrault at 215 with a record of 1-2.
Hamilton is currently ranked first in his weight class while Davis is fourth.
Hartselle next wrestles at the Grissom Duals Saturday.
Hartselle places 4th at Southside Invitational
The Tigers finished in fourth place out of 15 teams at the Southside Invitational wrestling meet Dec. 29-30. Walter Wellborn was the champion, followed by Oxford and St. Benedict.
Hartselle had two wrestlers win their individual weight classes – Kyle Davis at 125 pounds and Caleb Blanton at 145. Finishing in second place were Ethan Hamilton (189) and Barrett Eubanks (152). Jake Watkins (171) was a third-place finisher and Dallas Kalber (160) was fourth.
Also scoring team points for Hartselle were Zach Hill (145) and Pat Lovell (130). Both finished with 1-2 records in their matches.
JV wrestling update
Hartselle's junior varsity wrestling team recently competed in its own Hartselle Invitational at the Pettey Center Jan. 6.
At 155 pounds, Cody Anders and David Filiatrault finished in a tie for first place. Steven Hames took second place in heavyweight, Gordon Sporlock third at 175 and Kyle Lybarger fourth at 119.
