Decatur marks large meth bust

Members of the Morgan County Drug Task Force and the Decatur Police Department’s Organized Crime Unit teamed up last week to make the largest methamphetamine bust in DPD’s history.
On Jan. 11, agents and officer executed a search warrant at Shelton Heating and Air Conditioning at 3212 Sexton Road SE in Decatur. At the business, officers found 19.5 ounces of methamphetamine, 14 ounces of marijuana, a small quantity of cocaine, money, drug use and drug sale paraphernalia.
Officers arrested Gene Paul Southern, 42, of 2230 Graham Ave. SW, at the scene. He had been arrested by DPD just three days before for trafficking in marijuana and methamphetamine and was out of jail on bond at the time of the Jan. 11 arrest.
The investigation led back to Southern’s apartment, where officers found an additional 8 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Southern was taken to the Morgan County Jail on $170,500 bond.
Also arrested in connection with the case were: Kimberly Anne Sherrod, 23, 2230 Graham Ave. SW., Decatur; Otis Keith Shelton,, 39, 4407 Danville Road SW, Decatur; and Joseph Daniel Bobo, 44, of 2913 Truman Ave. SW, Decatur. Sherrod was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and is being held on $3,750 bond. Shelton was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and is being held on $1,250 bond. Bobo was charged with possession of marijuana in the second degree and bond was set at $500.
