Hartselle AARP enjoys busy season

The Hartselle Chapter of AARP 1831 met Dec. 4 with 22 members present.
President Sarah Halbrooks called the meeting to order and the group said the Pledge to the flag.
Halbrooks led the group in Christmas songs. Phyllis Castile played the piano and the group sang Christmas music.
The group wishes Freda Betterton a happy December birthday and many more.
Anniversary wishes go to Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Smith on Dec. 1. They were married 42 years. The club wishes them many more together.
Mary Douglas brought a cake won by Glen Smith.
Officers for 2007 are: President, Sarah Halbrooks; First Vice President, Bettye English; Second Vice-President Laverne Stacks; Secretary Phyllis Castile; Assistant Secretary Billie Battles; Treasurer, Ruth Gay; and Assistant Treasurer, Bettye English.
The group enjoyed games and a delicious Christmas dinner. Halbrooks asked the blessing and the meeting was adjourned.
The group met again Jan. 2 with 23 members and two guests present.
The meeting was called to order by President Halbrooks. The group said the Pledge and then Halbrooks read an article, “Crime Doesn’t Pay.”
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Smith, members of the Hartselle AARP, did a demonstration on ballroom dancing. They stressed that dancing is great exercise. They encouraged the group to exercise more and to start an exercise program.
Happy birthday wishes in January went out to Sarah Halbrooks and Lelia Wallace.
Get well wishes went out to Lib Kirkpatrick and Fay Camp.
Club members wish them a speedy recovery.
Glen Smith won the cake and Ms. Brock won the door prize.
Hostesses were Ruth Gay and Laverne Stacks. They did a great job with the decorations.
Ray Holton, the state district officer from Huntsville, installed the new officers.
Ruth Sharp asked the blessing and the group enjoyed a wonderful meal.
