Funeral for Elgin Maurice Bowen, 86, of Somerville was Sunday, Jan. 28, at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ralph McCollum and Cliff Mitchell officiating.
Burial was in Pines Cemetery.
Mr. Bowen died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, in Marshall County. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a Seabee in the South Pacific. He retired as a steelworker from Republic Steel and was a farmer for more than 20 years. He was Master Mason of Masonic Lodge No. 721 in Somerville and a member of Blue Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was also a song leader in previous years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Keel; two brothers, Adrian Bowen and Donald Bowen; and a grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Bowen of Somerville; two sons, Michael Bowen of Somerville and Ronald Bowen of St. Louis, Mo.; four daughters, Linda Murphy of Kenner, La., Carolyn Bowen of Dawsonville, Ga., Cindy Thompson of Priceville and Marie Dabbs of Huntsville; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Neal Thompson, David Thompson, Jonathan Bowen, Dwane Bowen, David Ellis and Steve VanBrackle.
