Hartselle High School’s sophomore American history students are making plans to visit the Andrew Jackson home, The Hermitage, in Nashville, Tenn. on March 28 thanks to a $1,000 Target Field Trip Grant.
Target launched the $800,000 grant program in September 2006 to demonstrate its commitment to educational support for America’s schools. In the first year the company has distributed 800 grants to education professionals throughout the U.S. to help them continue to use valuable experimental learning gained from field trips.
The money may be used to cover costs of transportation, entry fees, supplies and equipment and resource materials.
Garner said the grant would cover most of the transportation cost. Three chartered buses will be used.

The grant money was accompanied by a goody bag furnished by Target. It contained several items that will be useful prior to and during the trip, Garner said.
