Hartselle man charged after stop

A Hartselle man is charged with illegally carrying a weapon after being stopped by Decatur Police last week.
Yuri Sanchez Griffin, 22, of 921 Sparkman Street Apt. 6, was stopped Feb. 6 for a traffic violation on Danville Road in Decatur. Officers searched Griffin’s car during the stop and found a .38 caliber revolver and an open container of alcohol under the driver’s seat. Griffin was arrested and charged with carrying a pistol without a permit, having an open container of alcohol in the car and driving with a revoked license.
Officers later learned Griffin had a prior conviction for third degree burglary in Morgan County in 2004.
Griffin was then charged with prohibition from certain people being allowed to possess a firearm. He was taken to Morgan County Jail on $2,250 bond. Police said federal firearms violations may also be sought.
