Funeral for Orville Day Turney, 99, of Hartselle was Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Turney died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. She was born May 23, 1907, in the Woodland Mills Community (Cotaco) to William Jackson Day and Bobbie Hall Day. She was the oldest member of First United Methodist Church. Since 1991, she has made her home with her son and daughter-in-law in Hartselle.
She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and was known for her delicious cakes, cookies and pies. Following several years of managing Reynold’s Men’s Wear in Hartselle, she enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her young grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Turney; her parents; five brothers, Dewey, Winfrey, Leldon, Modie and Walker Day; and five sisters, Zelma Murphy, Mabel Chunn Drake, Leonte Williams, Doll Thomas and Vernard Oldham.
She is survived by a son, Doug Turney and wife Jane of Hartselle; a grandson, Preston Turney and wife Penny; and two great-grandsons, Payne Keith and Arthur Douglas Turney, all of Springville; and by a granddaughter, Carol Ann Turney of Nashville, Tenn. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bobby Day, Royce Turney, Mike Chenault, Fred Langston, David Langston and A. H. “Ike” Groover.
