Prepare for more force at the faucet

The opening of valves on a new 10-inch water main loop in Hartselle’s southwest sector will raise water pressure substantially for more than 400 business and residential customers of Hartselle Utilities on Monday, Feb. 26, according to Wayne Roberson, engineering services manager.
The loop expands the city’s high-pressure water district and will cause water pressure to jump by about 35 pounds per square inch (PSI) within its boundaries, Roberson said. In some cases the existing water pressure will be doubled.
The loop’s boundaries are: Chestnut Street NW from Main Street NW to Railroad Street, Karl Prince Drive from Highway 31 South to Railroad Street; Highway 31 South from Main Street NW to Karl Prince Drive and Railroad Street from Chestnut Street NW to Karl Prince Drive.
The affected customers were notified of the change by letter last August, Roberson said. They were encouraged to seek the advice of a licensed plumber to determine if a pressure regulator should be placed in their service to protect the plumbing.
Roberson said the city’s fire protection service will improve for those customers whose homes and businesses are within the boundaries of the new main line loop.
