City schools get $69,896 from state

A growing state economy is enabling the State Department of Education to do more to help school systems meet their current operational expenses.
Governor Bob Riley announced last week that $17 million is being released to school systems from the state’s Education Trust Fund because tax revenues have exceeded expectations so far in fiscal 2006-07.
Hartselle’s share of the additional appropriation is $69,896. Morgan County will receive $178,510 and Decatur City Schools will get $199,717.
The money will be placed in the current expenses line item and may be used for operating expenses such as utilities and supplies.
Reed said this money gives back to the system some of the funds taken away during proration.
“To get some of it back speaks well for the legislature’s effort to support our school systems,” he said.
The amount each school system received was based on the number of state-funded teachers it has.
