Funeral for Roy L. Sparkman, 70, of Danville was Saturday, Feb. 24, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ferriel Roberts and Wayne Voss officiating.
Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Sparkman died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. He was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Morgan County to Dewey E. Sparkman and Hattie M. Walden Sparkman. He was a member of Walden Chapel Baptist Church and served as a deputy and chief deputy under former Morgan County Sheriffs David Sandlin and John McBride in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He also was the patriarch of “The Singing Sparkmans,” a popular gospel music group.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Katie Mae Sparkman of Danville; a son, Glyndon Sparkman of Hartselle; two daughters, Laura Vest and LaVonda Jones, both of Danville; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Daniel Sparkman, Jonathan Sparkman, Jaradda Sparks, Donald Roberts, David Christian and Stanley Linderman.
