A deal between the town of Falkville and Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores Inc. has not yet been sealed by pen and ink but appears to be very close to happening.
The 14-acre tract the company is considering as a new Love’s location has apparently passed core sample tests and was rezoned by the town council Feb. 27 for commercial use. The mayor and town council met with Love’s officials on Tuesday evening to discuss and reach an agreement on matters such as site preparation and traffic control.
As far as the community is concerned, Walker said an overwhelming majority of townspeople are excited and supportive of having a business like Love’s located on the interstate.
“They see this as a good opportunity for the city to generate more revenue and provide better services,” he said. “It has been projected that we could receive as much as $288,000 in additional revenue from fuel and sales taxes.”
Walker said only three citizens spoke against the rezoning the 14-acre tract when it was discussed at a public hearing.
Company officials said earlier they want to have construction of a new travel stop in North Alabama under way in early 2007 and completed in early 2208.
