Military Collector’s show coming to Huntsville

An exciting new event is coming to Huntsville next weekend, March 17 and 18. That event is a Military Collector’s Show, which will be the Rocket City’s first show of its kind.
Sponsored by the Alabama Military Collector’s Association or AMCA, a new organization based in Huntsville, the show will be a place to buy, sell and trade military memorabilia.
The Military Collector’s Show will have more than 70 dealers to share their knowledge about military history among collectors, historians and the general public. There will also be exhibits of military items such as edged weapons, uniforms and helmets.
The Military Collector’s Show will be held in the Jaycee’s Community Building on the old Huntsville airport property.
The show will be open to the public from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. thru 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The general admission price is $5 per person, and children under 12 are admitted free. Uniformed military, police, and fire personnel are also admitted free.
The Boy Scouts of America will be on hand to sell refreshments as a fundraiser for their troop.
Two special guests will be on hand to meet and greet the public. One is Linda Morgan, the widow of Col. Bob Morgan, the pilot of the famous WW II airplane the “Memphis Belle”. The “Belle” was the first airplane and crew to complete 25 combat missions.
This feat allowed the airplane and crew to return to the United States to sell war bonds and to help in recruiting. Morgan will be selling and displaying items pertaining to the “Belle”, and offering some pictures signed by her late husband.
The second guest is Michael Durant, the survivor of “Operation Restore Hope” in Mogadishu, Somalia. Durant, who lives in Madison, is the best-selling author of “In The Company of Heroes” and “Night Stalker”. He will be signing his books from 10 a.m. – noon on Saturday only. Durant will have copies of his books on hand for sale.
The military collectibles at the show will include uniforms, medals, helmets, flags, edged weapons, firearms, badges, patches, field equipment, books, military autographs, and more. Dealers will be on hand to purchase any items offered for sale.
Tom Bruce recently commented to some friends, “I am confident this show will be a success, and I am already looking forward to the next show in September.”
