Funeral for A. E. “Ed” Brewer, 65, of Gadsden, was Thursday, March 15, at 3 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel with the Revs. Chris Gaskin and Carles Putman officiating and Ray Harris giving the eulogy.
Burial was in Rainbow Memorial Park.
Mr. Brewer died Monday, March 12, 2007. He was a native and longtime resident of Etowah County and of the Baptist faith last attending Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served two consecutive terms in active combat during the Vietnam War and receiving many honorable medals. He was a mechanic by trade, having worked his last mechanic job for the City of Gadsden and retiring from the Anniston Army Dept. He also delivered the Gadsden Times in the Camp Sibert/Attalla area for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Eloise Moore Brewer; a sister, Elsie Shook; a grandson, Randy Ray Collins; and a special nephew, Johnny Patterson.
He is survived by his wife, Ollie Mae Allen Brewer of Gadsden; three sons, Eddie Brewer and wife Amanda and Keith A. Collins, all of Gadsden and Randy Collins and wife Karen of Rainbow City; a daughter, Cynthia Brewer Engardio of Tazewell, Va.; five grandchildren, Lauren and Austin Brewer, Brandon, Randa and Katlyn Collins; a sister, Mary Ellen Asherbranner and husband Leon of Falkville; a brother, Elton Brewer and wife Faye of Danville;two aunts, Jewell Johns and Alene Fortenberry, both of Cullman, Carolyn Williams of Knoxville, Tenn. and Grethel Brewer of Gadsden; an uncle, James Moore of Cullman; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were Brandon Collins, Leon Asherbranner, Roger Asherbranner, Rex Asherbranner, Chris England, Jim Davis, Brian Dillard and Brian Gunnells.
Honorary pallbearers were the staff members of Collier-Butler Funeral Home.
