Advocacy center receives grant
By Staff
Child abuse victims in Morgan County and their families will have additional help as their cases go through the criminal justice system thanks in part to a $17,232 state grant.
The Morgan County Child Advocacy Center will use the funds to hire a family advocate to provide assistance during the investigation and trial. The advocate will assist family members who were not involved in the abuse.
The advocate will begin working with families when victims are brought to the center for investigative interviews. While the child is interviewed, the advocate will meet with parents to explain the investigative process and discuss ways they can protect their child from further abuse. To help parents cope and connect with others going through similar situations, the advocate will start a weekly support group. The advocate will maintain periodic contact to update families on the progress of their cases.
