Hershel ‘Red’ Harvel

Funeral for Hershel “Red” Harvel, 84, of Hartselle was Tuesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Neal Blaxton, Brad Roath and Lynn Harvel officiating.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Hartselle Heritage Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Harvel died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at his residence. He was born Oct. 23, 1922, in Tuscaloosa County to Roy Harvel and Lois Morris Harvel. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Harvel, Earl “Cub” Harvel and C.W. Harvel and a sister, Ruby Traynum.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Harvel of Hartselle; two sons, Lynn Harvel and wife Shelia and Garry Harvel and wife Judy, all of Hartselle; two daughters, Margaret Ricks and husband Tom of Decatur and Angie Griswold and husband Charlie of Danville; a brother, Howard Harvel of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Mary Lois Harvel of Pieora, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Norris, Steven Harvel, Joshua Harvel, Clyde Johnson, Shane McCollum and Danny Ward.
Isaac Griswold was an honorary pallbearer.
