Morgan County Senator Arthur Orr is among the sponsors of a series of bills designed to give Alabama the nation’s toughest laws against illegal immigrations.
Orr, Sen. Scott Beason and Rep. Micky Hammon are sponsoring the bills, which were part of Gov. Bob Riley’s Plan 2010.
The bills cover a range of items involving illegal immigration.
The first requires adults seeking government benefits from any state agency to be in the country legally. Those applying for benefits would have to produce photo identification, have a sworn affidavit and have the application approved through the SAVE (Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements) program. Sen. Beason and Rep. Hammon are the bill’s sponsors.
Another bill requires employers to attest they do not knowingly employ illegal aliens before they could qualify for state economic development grants or do business with state agencies. Orr and Hammon are the bill’s sponsors.
The last bill requires government entities to issue and renew commercial and professional licenses only for those in the U.S. legally. Orr and Hammon are sponsoring this bill.
