Orr named to TVA advisory board

Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, has been named as Alabama’s representative on a committee that advises the Tennessee Valley Authority. The appointment was announced last week by Gov. Bob Riley.
The Regional Resource Stewardship Council was created in 2000 to provide recommendations to TVA on the management of natural resources in the Tennessee Valley. The council’s responsibilities include advising TVA on public land planning and management, dam and reservoir operations, water supply and recreation.
The Regional Council consists of 20 members representing citizens across the Tennessee Valley who are interested in TVA’s management of the region’s natural resources. The members are nominated by the governors of the seven states in the TVA power service area, the distributors of TVA power, and TVA’s directly served customers.
Alabama was previously represented on the Regional Council by Senator Tommy Ed Roberts, who retired from the Alabama Senate in November after serving 12 years. Senator Orr was elected to the seat in the November 2006 election. He serves on several senate committees, including the General Fund Finance and Taxation Committee, the Confirmations Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Economic Expansion and Trade Committee.
