March 28, 1957-The state board of education has approved new textbooks for use in the public schools for the 1957-58 school year.
Choices included three recently updated versions of the old McGuffy readers used by both the parents and grandparents of the present generation of students.
The board of education also OK’d an increase in student fees at the Troy, Livingston, Jacksonville, and Florence State Teachers Colleges up to $50 a year.
