Speed limit lowered on I-65

Drivers headed down to the beach this summer will want to slow down through Birmingham.
The speed limit at the Interstate 65/Interstate 20/59 has been lowered from 60 mph to 50 mph.
Temporary signs alerting motorists of the new speed limit will be in place by next week.
On I-59, the speed limit will be lowered from mile marker 123 through mile marker 127.
On I-65, it will be lowered from mile marker 259 to mile marker 262, and on I-20 it will be lowered from mile marker 130 to mile marker 129. The speed limit on I-20 will be lowered to 45 mph.
Several additional state troopers will also be assigned to the area to help enforce the new speed limits.
