HHS jazz band part of Princess concert
By Staff
The Princess Theatre Center for the Performing Arts presents the annual Big Band Bash April 5 at 7 p.m. This year’s event celebrates the 14th Bash and features more than 60 musicians from the University of North Alabama
(UNA) Studio Jazz Band and Hartselle High School Jazz Band and includes a
special tribute to Big Band Bash founder Paul Stroud.
The musicians and audience will celebrate the memory of the beloved musician who died last year. Stroud began the Big Band Bash as well as the free Music in the Park Series held throughout the summer at Rhodes Ferry Park. The concert is also a Year of Alabama Arts event at the Princess.
The Hartselle High School Jazz Band is under the direction of Randall Key.
During the concert, area musicians will play a special tribute to Stroud. Among those participating in the event: Emerson Scott, Buddy Chambers, Randall Key, A. J. Coleman, David Pointer, Gil Smith, Watha Tucker, Charlie Lyle and a host of others. Stroud was a longtime saxophone player with The Sophisticated Swingers band.
