The deadline for making application for an opening on the Hartselle School Board ended March 30 with incumbent Jennifer Sittason as the only candidate seeking consideration for appointment.
Sittason was appointed in June 2005 to fill the unexpired term of Ronnie Abercrombie who resigned after serving three years of a five-year term. The next term will begin with the board’s regular monthly meeting on June 13.
Sittason said she wants to be reappointed for a full term in order to help lead an initiative to gain public support for passage of a 12.5 mill property tax for a new high school. She is currently serving as vice chairman of the board and also heads up a School Tax Committee.
The City Council will likely make the appointment for a full five-year term at the next city council meeting April 10, according to Chairman K. T. “Kenny” Thompson.
Sittason is a 1985 graduate of Hartselle High School and has a master’s degree in counseling from UAB. She and her husband David are the parents of four school-age children.
