Local schools participate in first ever Morgan County golf tournament

Decatur High School's golf team finished first in the boys division of the first annual Morgan County Golf Tournament at Quail Creek Golf Course the afternoon of April 2. The girls team from Austin won first place in their division.
Boys teams from Austin and Hartselle placed second and third, respectively. Girls teams from Hartselle and Falkville finished second and third, respectively, in their division.
Three members of the Red Raiders' boys team posted scores among the top six golfers and the team as a whole shot 318. Austin's score was 18 strokes higher at 336, followed by Hartselle (342), Priceville (352), Falkville (367), West Morgan (379) Decatur Heritage (408), Brewer (414) and Danville (419).
Austin's girls came out on top with a 132 score over nine holes. Rounding out the top five were Hartselle (136), Falkville (186), Brewer (192) and Danville (199).
Hartselle's Matthew Hill and Decatur's Bill Nabors tied for lowest score in the tournament honors. Each shot a 76, four-over par. They were joined on the boys all-tournament team by Falkville's Thomas Holt (78), Decatur's Stuart Morehead (79), Austin's Zach Gourgeot (80) and Decatur's Parker McAnally (80).
Taylor Kirby of Hartselle and Sloan Davis of Austin each scored 39 and tied for lowest score honors in the girls division. Joining them on the all-tournament team were Austin's Kristen Askew (43), Priceville's Abbie Harris (47), Hartselle's Kaylon King (47) and Falkville's Stephanie Hargrove (47).
The tournament attracted approximately 75 golfers from all of the high schools in Morgan County. Quail Creek Golf Resort, Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. and Morgan County Cattlemen's Association served as sponsors. Tournament co-directors were Gerald Holmes and Bill Baker.
