The Lady Tigers had little trouble in the opening round game of the Bob Jones Invitational April 5, with senior pitcher Mary Curtis hurling a nine-strikeout shutout.
Michel Fields had a 2-for-2 performance with a run, two doubles and four RBIs and Catie Keel finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Hartselle 11, Breckinridge (Ky.) 2
At the Bob Jones Invitational, Hartselle's Kayla Orr led the offensive fireworks with a run, four RBIs, a double and a home run in a 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Whitley Collins was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs and Kristy Pevahouse was 2-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a triple.
Curtis picked up the win, striking out three in four innings of work.
Hartselle 8, Prattville 4
Curtis improved to 3-0 in tournament play, striking out four in Hartselle's win. Kayla Orr finished 2-for-2 with two runs and Chandler Orr was 1-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBIs.
Hartselle 5, Ezell-Harding (Tenn.) 4
Whitley Collins was 2-for-3 with an RBI double and scored a run. Breanna Segars finished 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Curtis picked up the win.
Hartselle 3, Bob Jones 1
In the round of 16 in a game played Saturday, Curtis struck out four in five innings and picked up her fifth-straight win at the tournament.
Audrey McClanahan finished 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a double and Breanna Segars was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Alexandria 8, Hartselle 3
The Lady Tigers' stay at the Bob Jones Invitational ended in the quarterfinals with a loss.
Chandler Orr finished 2-for-3 with a run, two RBIs and a home run. Haley Miller was 2-for-3 including a double and Michel Fields finished 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a double.
Hartselle 3, Decatur 2
Hartselle's Lady Tigers needed only a stout pitching performance from Senior Breana Segars and five hits to put down a highly-touted Red Raider team on the road April 3.
Both teams were ranked among the state's top 10 Class 5A teams going into their second match of the season. Decatur (28-9) was second and Hartselle (26-6) fourth.
The Lady Tigers also won a home opener against the Lady Red Raiders by a score of 3-1 on February 26.
Leading Hartselle at the plate were Kristy Pevahouse and Audrey McClanahan. Pevahouse accounted for the winning run when she belted a two-run homer over the right centerfield fence in the top of the fifth inning. Earlier in the same inning McClanahan tripled and came home on a hard-hit ground ball by Segars to tie the game at 1-all. Pevahouse also had a single as did Mary Curtis and Kayla Orr.
The Lady Red Raiders grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Mollie Russell walked with the bases loaded to score Lindsey Hawkins. They added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when a single by Hawkins scored Whitney Fletcher.
Segars was the winning pitcher. She gave up two runs on five hits while striking out five batters and walking three.
Russell also pitched well but was tagged with the loss. She allowed three runs on five hits while striking out six batters and walking two.
