Funeral for Shelvie Earl Williams Sr., 94, of Hartselle was Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Hartselle Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy R. Young officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Hartselle Cemetery.
Mr. Williams died Monday, April 2, 2007. He was born December 24, 1912, to Charlie W. Williams and Mattie Wilhite Williams. Williams was affectionately known by many people as “Jack.” He attended the former Morgan County Training School in Hartselle, enjoyed watching baseball games, sitting on his porch and sharing stories he experienced during his 94 years of life. He was retired from Hartselle Medical Center and Maison Morgan department store, was a loved and respected member of the Hartselle community, a member of Hartselle First Missionary Baptist Church and also a long-standing member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 42.
He was married to the late Knewtie Bell Williams for 69 years. Other family members who preceded him in death were a son, Shelvie Williams Jr. and two daughters, Carolyn Sue Williams and Barbara Ruth Davis.
He is survived by two sons, Don Wayne Williams and wife Sandra of Locust Fork, Ga. and Larry Williams and wife Carolyn of Tanner; three daughters, Charlene Miller of Cleveland, Ohio, Shirley Marie Love and husband Cornelius of Eolia, Mo. and Gloria Davis and husband Joe of Hartselle; a son-in-law, Bruce Davis Sr. of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Charlie Pearl Burton and husband Eddie of Cleveland, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Bell of Birmingham and Beatrice Williams of Indianapolis, Ind.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
