9-run inning helps Lady Tigers to beat Buckhorn

Hartselle's Lady Tigers scored nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to overcome a 1-0 deficit and went on to defeat the Buckhorn Lady Bucks 10-6 in a home game Monday night. The visitors made a run in the top of the seventh inning by sending eight players to the plate and scoring five runs on a double, walk, single and a three-run homer.
The Lady Tigers were led at the plate by Whitley Collins with a pair of doubles. Kayla Orr contributed a double and a single, Catie Keel had a pair of singles and Michel Fields, Audrey McClanahan, Kristy Pevahouse and Sara Lang each singled.
Mary Curtis was the winning pitcher, She went the distance, allowing six hits while striking out three batters and giving up three walks.
Hartselle 11, Gardendale 3
The Lady Tigers defended their No. 2 ranking in the Class 5A polls with a strong victory over No. 5 Gardendale April 10 at Grady and Margie Long Park.
Gardendale held a 3-1 lead after three innings but Hartselle (32-8) scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to move in front.
Mary Curtis earned the win, striking out two in a complete-game effort. Two of Gardendale's runs were unearned.
Curtis also started Hartselle's fourth-inning rally with a bloop single that scored Audrey McClanahan. Pevahouse followed with a single to score Anna Hall to tie the game at 3-3.
Whitney Collins' RBI single scored Catie Keel, who was pinch running for Curtis. Kayla Orr had an RBI single to score Pevahouse and Breanna Segars followed with a two-RBI single to score Collins and Orr. Hall closed out the comeback with a single that scored Segars.
Chandler Orr added a three-run home run in the fifth inning, with Pevahouse and Keel (pinch running for Collins) scoring on the hit.
Buckhorn 3, Hartselle JV 2
Buckhorn's JV Lady Bucks edged Hartselle's JV Lady Tigers 3-2 in eight innings at the Margie and Grady Long Softball Complex on Monday afternoon. The winning run was scored in the top of the eighth inning after the last batter in the previous inning was placed on second base in accordance with international softball tie-game rules.
Meaghan Gray struck out 11 batters in the extra-inning loss. She gave up six hits and no walks. Alex Paulsen led the way at the plate with a triple and a single. Kimmie Minor and Christa Long each had a single.
