Funeral for Bettye Maddux Green Payne, 79, of Marietta, Ga., was Tuesday, April 17, at 1 p.m. at Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Payne died Saturday, April 14, 2007, in Marietta, Ga. She was born July 11, 1927, in Morgan County to Henry Grey Maddux and Inez Johnson Maddux. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Ellis Green; his parents and her beloved in-laws, Ruth Oakes and Jesse C. Green and Mary Payne; four brothers, and six sisters; and her beloved grandsons, Lindsey Aaron Kaeo and Joseph Marion Green.
She was a 1946 graduate of Eva High School and was president of her senior class. She attended Hamby’s Chapel United Methodist Church near Eva, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta and was a former member of Bell Springs Baptist Church near Vinemont.
A beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she counted and treated everyone as family regardless of how they became a part of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ronald F. Payne of Marietta;
two sons, James Ellis Green and wife Jackie of Gainesville, Ga. and William David Green and wife Laura Peno of Marietta; four daughters, Brenda Bell and husband Gary L. and Deborah K. Green and husband Sean Rider, all of Stone Mountain, Ga., Hilda R. Heady of Morgantown, W. Va. and Bonnie Chameides and husband Bill of Atlanta, Ga.; a stepson, Ronnie Payne and wife Donna of Dallas, Tex.; three stepdaughters, Kathey Scaduto and husband Frank of Visalia, Calif., Patricia Payne Jefferson and husband Chris of Norco, Calif. and Diane Clegg and husband Corey of Austin, Tex.; a sister, Lora Brown of Hartselle; 30 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Justin Bell, Jake Saunders, Eli Heady, Jesse Heady and Robert Green and son-in-law Sean Rider.
Grandson Matthew Payne was an alternate pallbearer and Lindsey Keith Green was an honorary pallbearer.
