Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
A Hartselle resident has earned national recognition for her volunteer work.
Julie Murphy has been named a “Daily Point of Light” by the Points of Light Foundation &Volunteer Center National Network, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.
Over the past six years, Murphy has been an active member of Families and Children Experiencing Separation (FACES), a non-profit United Way Agency, Its mission is to meet the needs of Morgan County’s abused and neglected children.
Murphy has been an active member for six years and is currently serving as president. She has been involved with many other charitable organizations and when she came on board with F.A.C.E.S., she said she knew this was where her heart and time belonged.
She is also a wife and mother of two boys as well as owner of Regal Employment where she works full time.
Murphy has involved her employees in reaching out to help in the community. They have a sibling group of four foster children as their special friends. They provide special things for all holidays and birthdays to let these children know that someone else cares for them.
She also helped her employees sponsor a large family at Christmas. Upon delivering the gifts, they saw many other needs in the home. Murphy immediately purchased heaters, blankets and other items for the family. In the summer while doing a follow-up visit they found there was no air conditioning in their home. A cooling system was purchased and the wiring was updated to make it safe for the family.
As the school year starts, she makes sure that all the supplies that are needed for the children are provided.
Murphy has had three foster children as special friends for many years. If any of these children are adopted or able to return home, she takes another child. These children feel really special because of her caring.
In December FACES has a big fundraiser, a Christmas Open house and Silent Auction. No matter what the need, organizers said Murphy will see that it is taken care of, from collecting silent auction items, getting corporate sponsors, decorating, creating invitations to getting lunch for the troops.
The Daily Point of Light Award honors individuals and volunteer groups that have made a commitment to connect Americans through service.
to help meet critical needs in their communities. It focuses on the goals for children and youth set by the President’s Summit for America’s Future.
