Sweep of Vinemont gives Danville area title

The Hawks earned a pair of four-run victories in an area doubleheader April 10 at Danville, guaranteeing the Hawks the Area 11 regular season championship and a spot in the Class 3A playoffs for the fourth straight year. Danville's area record is 5-1 and Vinemont is the area runner-up.
In Game 1, Roger Smith picked up the win, working six innings and scattering five hits while striking out five. Jake Young picked up the save, pitching the seventh and striking out two.
Brian Rogers led the Hawks offensively with a double, two RBIs and a run. Randy Thomason had a double, an RBI and a run; Jake Mahathy hit two singles and scored a run; Dakota Wilson hit a double, a single and scored a run and Parker Hogan hit a single and scored a run.
In Game 2, the Hawks took advantage of poor control by the Vinemont pitching staff, with Danville players collecting nine walks. Cody Taylor tripled, singled and scored two runs and an RBI. Mahathy also scored two runs and picked up an RBI and Rogers scored two runs.
Young, Smith and Zac Ward also scored a run. Ward had two RBIs, both on sacrifice flies, and Wilson picked up an RBI.
Hogan earned the win, with Wilson and Young adding relief.
Tanner 13, Priceville 12 (9 innings)
Tanner's George Adams scored on Chip Greenhaw's single in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs as the Bulldogs fell in a slugfest.
Rand Hutchison had a solo home run and a single and Jeremy Hale added a single and double for Priceville.
Danville 12, Addison 0 (5 innings)
The Hawks got it done offensively and defensively in a mercy-rule shutout against Class 2A No. 5 Addison Friday.
Roger Smith pitched the first four innings, allowing four hits and striking out two. Michael Veazey pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the win.
At the plate, Smith had two RBIs. Smith, Dakota Wilson, Jake Mahathy and Randy Thomason each had two hits and scored two runs. Parker Hogan also scored two runs and Bryan Rogers hit a two-RBI double for the Hawks.
Priceville 14, Athens 9
Rand Hutchison hit a two-run home run and added a single to help the Bulldogs to a road win April 12. Four other Priceville (29-6) players finished with multi-hit games.
Lance Hughes hit two singles and a double, Kyle Bunnell picked up three singles and Dustin Chambers and Kody Etheridge each had a double and single.
Priceville 15, Fairview 4 (5 innings)
Jeremy Hale and Rand Hutchison were the offensive standouts in Priceville's area win April 10. Hale finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs and Hutchison was 2-for-4 with a double, grand slam and five RBIs.
Dustin Chambers earned the win, working four innings and striking out one.
