May 5 singing will benefit Orr scholarship

A benefit singing for the Emily Orr Foundation Scholarship Fund will be held at Sparkman Civic Center in Hartselle May 5 at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the $10 admission charge will be used for a $600 per year scholarship for a deserving Hartselle High School student.
The scholarship fund was set up at Redstone Federal Credit Union in late 2006 by Emily Orr’s family after she was fatally injured in a single-vehicle accident on South Cedar Cove Road near Falkville. The 16-year-old music lover was a junior at Hartselle High and a member of the HHS Chorus.
An endowment of $10,000 is needed before the scholarship fund can be tapped into, according to Chris Orr, Emily Orr’s father.
The Lodestone, a rock singing group with strong Hartselle ties, was instrumental in putting together plans for the benefit and will be one of several vocal and musical groups featured on stage. Other entertainers will be Natchez Trace, a popular country band, the Hartselle High School Jazz Band and vocalists Doug Moss, Stephanie Robinson and Chelsie Hale.
