Funeral for Nadine Bentley Waddell Dunaway, 87, of Decatur will be Thursday (today), April 26, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robbie Stufel and Bro. James Chitwood officiating.
Burial will be in Bishop Cemetery.
Mrs. Dunaway died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at her residence. She was preceded in death by her parents and all nine of her siblings.
She was well know in Decatur and Morgan County, having worked for over 40 years as a waitress, first at Bentley’s Restaurant years ago and eventually retiring from Jerry’s Family Restaurant (now City Caf/). She was featured in the Decatur Daily in 1994. The story was titled, “Nadine: After 39 years, it’s still service with a smile for Decatur waitress.” In it she was identified as a waitress who can wait a table faster than a cowboy can rope a steer. Her long list of regulars were proof of the statement. She was also known for her green thumb and the beautiful flower gardens she grew. Mrs. Dunaway was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She also shared her beautiful alto voice in various other churches where she was a member in prior years, singing in choirs and in solos and duets.
She is survived by a son, Jerry Waddell and wife Shirley of Priceville; three daughters, Kay Waddell Russ and husband Don and Kathy Waddell Fincher and husband Wayne “Snook,” all of Decatur and Vickie Waddell Edwards-Peto and husband Paul of Yorba Linda, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Cory Derrick of Fort Walton, Fla., Dorinda Steele of Hartselle, Danya Sanders of Scottville, Mich., Steven and Larry Waddell, both of Priceville, Shasta Edwards Lanford of Toney, Chella Edwards of Decatur and Brant Peto of Yorba Linda, Calif.; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Freda Bentley; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steven Waddell, Larry Waddell, Cory Derrick, Brant Peto, Bob Sanders and Jamie Lanford.
